14 dead, 30 injured in horrible bus-van collision

QUETTA: At least 14 persons including a Levies official lost their lives, while 30 other sustained injuries as a result of a horrible collision between a bus and a van.

The incident took place in the area of Dasht, district Mastung where a Bolan-bound minibus rammed into a passenger van. It has been learnt that some youngsters were in the minibus going to Bolan for a picnic.

The rescue teams reached the accident spot and shifted the victims to Civil Hospital, Quetta. Many injured are in critical condition and emergency has been declared in the hospital. The officials have informed that the crash occurred due to over speeding.

According to rescue sources, women and children were among the injured.

However, no details with regard to identification of the passengers could be ascertained immediately.

As many as 27 injured including women and children and 11 bodies were brought to Quetta Civil Hospital, the hospital spokesman confirmed. Three passengers in precarious condition were later succumbed to their injuries during treatment, the hospital sources said.

The van’s driver died on the spot while the driver of the passenger bus fled the scene after the deadly accident. Local police have launched a search operation in the area to arrest him.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chief Minister Balochistan Sanaullah Khan Zehri have expressed condolences with the families of the victims and mourned the loss of lives in the accident. The chief minister has directed concerned authorities to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured.
