3.65 million Kids to be immunized against polio: EOC

PESHAWAR: The Three days anti-polio drive gets underway amid tight security in 13 high risk districts of the province as over 3.65 million children will be inoculated in the October campaign.

The campaign is being conducted in Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Swat, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank and D.I Khan.

EOC Coordinator Atif Rehman while chairing the preparatory meeting in this regard here at Emergency Operations Center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directed all the concerned district Health Officers and district polio control rooms (DPCRs) to ensure quality campaigns in their respective districts so that no child was missed from vaccination.

He appreciated significant decrease in polio cases in the province saying that although the province has reported single polio case in the year yet the objective is to achieve complete eradication.

Atif Rehman underscored the need for coordinated efforts and close liaison among all the line departments saying that success in polio eradication was not possible without collective efforts.

He hoped that law enforcing agencies will play key role in ensuring peaceful and conducive environment to the teams so that they continue working for the national cause without any fear or threat.

Earlier, Coordinator was briefed that 12547 total teams were constituted to reach out to the target children out of which 10918 were mobile teams, 848 fixed, 609 transit and 172 roaming teams. He was informed that 2888 Area In-charges were monitoring teams with a view to keep check and ensure that no child was missed.

Moreover, he was informed that 22 IDPs and Afghan Camps were also included in the micro plan and would be vaccinated against polio in the ongoing campaign.

UNICEF Team Leader Dr Joahar, WHO Team Leader Dr Abdi Nasir, Technical Focal Person BMGF Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah, Director EPI Dr Akram Shah, communications and operations experts were also present on the occasion.
