3000 Smart phones distributed in polio vaccinators

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Taking another concrete step towards a strengthened and well- coordinated  mechanism to ensure efficient and timely  monitoring  of  vaccinators across the province, the provincial health department has  equipped its  three thousand vaccinators with smart phones. These smart phones will be linked to an online dash board, all the District Health Officers and EPI Coordinators; have access to and the performance of each and every vaccinator can be monitored online.

To bring all the vaccinators within the monitoring framework, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the provincial Health department and Telenor Pakistan. The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Secretary Health Abid Majeed and other high ups of health department and Telenor.

Secretary Health Abid Majeed while expressing views on this occasion said that provincial Government had created a number of posts of vaccinators adding that each union council of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had more vaccinators than the international standards. “We have already equipped our vaccinators with motorcycles but were looking for an innovative mechanism to keep a vigilant eye on all our field workers and thus introduced this on line monitoring through smart phones” Said Abid Majeed.

He urged that salary of the vaccinators should be linked with their performance and every vaccinator should get a monthly salary for the performance shown. He informed that ifthis experience turns into a success story, the same will be replicated for monitoring of doctors and other paramedics as well.

It needs to be mentioned that map is an interesting feature of this online monitoring, which will show the covered and missed out areas at the end of the month and the missed out areas will be kept on priority for the next round of immunization.

Besides the provincial dashboard, all the district health officers will have their respective online dashboards where from they will monitor the performance of their respective vaccinators.

The MoU was signed by Director EPI Dr. Abdul Hameed Afridi and Director Business to Business Telenor Atifa Asghar. The SIMs provided by Telenor will have a package of 4 GB internet Data, 300 minutes to all networks and 500 SMS.
