Al Qaeda plans to attack Jinnah hospital, says threat alert

KARACHI: Intelligence agencies on Friday warned local administration and law enforcement agencies of attacks on Jinnah Hospital, the largest health facility in Southern Sindh province of Pakistan.

According to sources an alert has been issued in which the Rangers and Karachi police have informed of “terrorist planning” to make the doctors, staff and patients hostage before using oxygen and chemicals for playing havoc with the lives of the people.

According to letter, which is being sent to different law enforcement agencies, home department and respective health facility, militants of the proscribed Al Qaeda in Indian Sub-continent are planning the attacks.

When contacted Director Emergency Services at Jinnah Hospital, Dr Seemi Jamali, confirmed of threats and said she has directed different sections to tighten security. The Rangers and police have also increased number of personnel with view of tightened security.

Meanwhile, Counter Terrorism of Department of Sindh Police on Friday claimed to have recovered a huge arm cache being concealed underground in Mehran Town area of Karachi.

“The counter Terrorism Department during raid in Mehran Town area of the Korangi neighborhood last night arrested Waseem Ahmed alias Waseem Double, Unit in-charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement London,” informed Raja Umar Khattab, in-charge CTD.

“On his indication police recovered a huge cache of arms,” Khattab told The Frontier Post.

“Waseem is employee of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Broad (KWSB) and would draw salary at home,” Khattab further told.

According to police, the accused had obtained several arms licenses for his unit through counterfeit documents. “The accused, preciously worker of the United MQM before Dr Farooq Sattar parted ways with party founder Altaf Hussain, had been involved in China Cutting, land grabbing, extortion and snatch of hides during the area 2010 to 2013, police claimed.

As a unit in charge, the accused told police, he would provide arms to the terrorists.

The arms and ammunition, Khattab informed, include four Repeater Riffle, three pistol, one Ak-47, and four hundreds and ten bullets of Ak-147, 12 bore and other pistol.
