Four Indians held for leaking ‘Games of Thrones’ episode

MUMBAI (AFP) – Four people have been arrested in India for leaking an episode from HBO s “Game of Thrones” television series before it was aired in the country, police said Monday.

Already the most pirated show in TV history, the popular fantasy drama — which tells the story of noble families vying for the Iron Throne — has been plagued by leaks in recent weeks following the premiere of the seventh season.

After receiving a complaint for a company “we investigated the case and have arrested four individuals for unauthorised publication of the fourth episode from season seven,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan told AFP.

He said the four — accused of criminal breach of trust and computer-related offences — would be detained until August 21 amid an investigation.

The case was filed by a Mumbai-based company responsible for storing and processing the TV episodes for an app, local media said.

The four arrested were company employees who possessed official credentials giving them access to the episodes, the reports added.

Game of Thrones has more Emmy Awards than any narrative show in history and airs in 170 countries, with viewership figures shattering records across the world.

As well as being a hit globally, it has a massive fan base in South Asia.

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss last year announced the shortened run of seven and six episodes for the final two seasons and confirmed the summer return for season seven, a departure from the usual April premieres.

The show has been teasing winter s arrival since its pilot episode in 2011, and in the latest episode preview “Death Is The Enemy” has finally moved closer to showcasing a battle between a horde of undead “White Walkers” from the frozen North and a troop of warriors led by hero Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Felt like being punched in the stomach when I watched Raees: Mahira

Web Desk

KARACHI: Pakistani actress Mahira Khan admitted on Friday that she had felt like being punched in the stomach when she watched her Bollywood debut flick Raees.

Mahira made these comments while delivering a lecture in a university. The actress spoke about how she had encountered failures in her life time and again.

“The truth is that we have all gone through failure. I have personally as well as professionally experienced failure,” she said.

Mahira said that she had followed her gut feeling which helped her make the correct decisions in life. The actress stated that she had followed her gut feeling and said yes to the role in Bol when many people had told her not to do so. The same happened with her role in Humsafar.

However, she was disappointed when there was no credit for her in her Bollywood debut Raees which also starred Shah Rukh Khan.

“Then for ‘Raees’, even though the teaser said ‘introducing Mahira Khan’, I felt like being punched in the stomach when there was no such credit in the film itself,” she said.

The actress said that it was also difficult to digest that when the film was finally released, she was banned in India (owing to a ban by select Indian producers on Pakistani artists) and the film was banned in Pakistan.

The actress, however, said that she had learnt from the failure and would continue to move on and pursue success as she had done so in the past.

“Failure is knowledge and knowledge is success. So it is a win-win. We actors know how to paint smiles on our faces and carry on, I did too,” she added.

Akshay film spotlights India’s toilet shortage

MUMBAI (AFP) – Bollywood may be famous for its blingy song and dance numbers, but a new movie released Friday deals with a distinctly less glamorous subject — India’s chronic lack of toilets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made building more toilets a key priority in the country of 1.25 billion people, around half of whom still have to go into the fields to answer the call of nature.

Campaigners estimate that nearly 200,000 infants die every year due to infections spread through open defecation, which they say also puts women at risk of sexual assault.

“Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” (“Toilet: A love story”) is inspired by the true-life tale of one man’s battle to build toilets in his village in rural India.

He wanted to win back his new wife, whose refusal to live in a house without a toilet won her plaudits in India.

Script writers Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal told AFP they hoped the movie, featuring one of Bollywood’s biggest stars Akshay Kumar, would have a “tangible impact” on Indian society.

“This happened in a village in Madhya Pradesh, and we thought that was a strong statement,” said Singh, referring to one of India’s most rural states.

The writers said they came across numerous stories of women being assaulted when they went into the fields late at night in the process of researching the movie.

“But defecating in the open is not only unhealthy it is also dangerous,” said Garima.

“While we were doing our research we heard of three incidents of molestation. Crimes against women have increased owing to their vulnerability when they are out in the fields, alone in the dark, with their ‘pants down’ as it were.”

Garima said it was hypocritical for Indian society to insist that women cover up on the one hand, while on the other forcing them to “expose themselves owing to a lack of sanitary and bathroom facilities”.

Kumar, one of the world’s highest paid actors with an income of $31.5 million according to a Forbes ranking published last year, recently released a “Toilet Anthem” to promote the cause.

“While mankind has progressed far enough to journey to Mars and scale Mount Everest, 54 percent of India defecates in the open,” says the song.

Modi has called for every household in India to have a toilet.

Last year, he announced that his government had already built more than 20 million toilets since coming to power in 2014.

Around two-thirds of homes in the village that the movie is based on now have toilets, according to media reports.

“Our script was ready in 2014 and we felt we should get it going while it is still a hot topic. It’s especially important to get people in rural areas to watch this film,” said Garima.

The 43-year-old Bollywood actor was overjoyed with the news as he took to Twitter. “We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our son Azarius Fardeen Khan who was born on the 11th of August 2017,” he said.

He was added in the look recognisable now. Fardeen stopped taking care of his diet and adopted a rather lazy lifestyle. Becoming obese is probably one of the reasons why he is not casted by directors in their films these days.
