Chaudhry Nisar to hold key press conference Sunday

ISLAMABAD (APP): Former interior minister Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said he will address an important press conference on an as yet undisclosed matter on Sunday evening.

The news accompanied media reports that PML-N leader and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had appealed to other party leaders to desist from attacking state institutions in their speeches and avoid any confrontation with organs of the state.

However, it is not clear what Nisar’s press conference will be about, senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz politician Pervaiz Rashid’s criticism of the former interior minister on Friday had caused the latter to hit back, saying he did not know why “some people have put the burden of all their mistakes and blunders on the ministry of interior and the establishment”.

Earlier, Nisar’s spokesperson reacted upon fellow party leader Pervaiz Rasheed’s statement about ‘Dawn Leaks Scandal’ as he implied decisions coming against the ruling party in its own term due to an impotent ‘Interior Minister’.

Nisar’s spokesman, in a statement, said that if Pervaiz Rasheed was innocent then he should have asked his government to make the Dawn Leaks inquiry report public.

In an interview to a private TV channel, former information minister Pervaiz Rasheed, who was deposed over the Dawn Leaks scandal, had said that some of the major decisions during PML-N’s term in power came against the party despite having its own interior ministry, while enumerating Dawn Leaks Scandal, WhatsApp messages scandal with regard to formation of Panamagate JIT.

Nisar, who was interior minister during all these developments, said that his fellow party leader should come clear on what sort of help he needed from his ministry, adding that only one member out of the whole Dawn Leaks inquiry committee was under the interior ministry.

It merits to mention here that the senior PML-N leader has recently developed differences with party’s head and ex-PM Nawaz Sharif over Panama probe.
