KARACHI: Efforts are on to bring Dr Arshad Vohra, Deputy Mayor who earlier this week defected to Mustafa Kamal led Pak Sarzameen Party, back into the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), it emerged on Friday.

A senior MQM-P leader told that those closed to Dr Arshad Vohra have been tasked to bring him back in order to save the party from further collapse.

Vohra, who recently changed side by jumping into Mustafa Kamal-led PSP’s bandwagon, was accused of transferring money of extortion to London based founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Mr Altaf Hussain.

Speaking to media regarding his decision at Pakistan House on Sunday, Vohra said that he was grateful to the people of Karachi who gave them the mandate.

“Unfortunately, I was not able to deliver to the people of Karachi,” he lamented. “We have been quite unjust to the people of Pakistan,” he shared

“I will resign from the post of deputy mayor after completing all the legal formalities,” he added. However, the PSP on Monday decided that party wouldn’t ask Vohra to resign.

The MQM-P also decided to not use the option of city council resolution to de-seat Vohra as deputy mayor of Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Monday summoned an important meeting of the party in light of the defection of local party leader Arshad Vohra to the rival Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

The MQM-P leadership met under the chair of party leader Farooq Sattar at the party’s temporary office in Bahadurabad. Farooq Sattar has said that the party does not want to partake in politics of pressure, adding that the party can bring back the members that have left it for rival political group

Meanwhile, Vohra Monday recorded his statement to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the money laundering case against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder and others. The FIA, a few days ago, had asked the Karachi deputy mayor to provide certain details including his banking transactions.

According to reports, Vohra has started to cooperate with the agency pertaining to money laundering investigations against the party he had been associated with until a day ago. He recorded his statement to the FIA and sought some time for provide other details.

Dr Farooq Sattar got dry cleaned in one night where as the workers remained criminals if they join PSP, as if those in MQM are angels, this was stated by President PSP, Anees Qaimkhani here on Thursday.

Speaking to a press conference at Pakistan House, in which Ex deputy convener of MQM Nasir Jamal along with 1602 office bearers and workers mainly from MQM and other parties join Pak Sarzameen Party, Anis Kaim Khani further said that MQM is a foreign funded party so it must be banned immediately because it has violated the political party’s act 1972.

It should be noted that during the span of only one month over 3500 workers of MQM joined PSP which mean that on the organizational front PSP has literally pulled the rug from under MQM feet.

While addressing the press conference Dr. Sagheer demanded from Farooq Sattar to clear the ambiguity as to which institution of Pakistan is/are pressurizing notables and workers of MQM to join PSP in huge numbers. He also urged PMLN leadership to question Farooq Sattar over his advise for Mian Nawaz Shareef to join Pak Sarzameen Party.

While addressing the press conference Ex deputy convener Nasir Jamal said that Farooq Sattar must stop fooling the public as he has joined PSP on his free will and no FIR even a complaint has yet to be launched against him.
