Funeral prayers for Shaheed Lt Arsalan Alam offered

PESHAWAR: The funeral prayers for 22-year-old Shaheed Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, who had embraced martyrdom in an attack from across the border in Rajgal area of Khyber Agency, was offered here at the Peshawar Garrison on Saturday.

The funerals were attended by the KP governor, Corps Commander Peshawar, military and civilian officials and the relatives of Shaheed Lieutenant Arsalan Alam. The martyred Army Officer would be buried in his native town.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists fired from across the border on newly established Pakistani Border post in Rajgal Valley in Khyber Agency.

Twenty-two-year-old Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, the officer commanding that post got hit while performing his duties and embraced martyrdom.

The 22-year-old Lieutenant Arsalan Alam was only brother of three sisters and was deployed at the newly-established border post in Rajgal valley. Alam belonged to Sindh Regiment and was born and lived in Rawalpindi.

Rajgal valley has been recently cleared from terrorists under Operation Khyber-IV. During aforementioned military offensive, army cleared 253 square kilometers area and flushed out 52 terrorists. Two soldiers were also martyred and 15 were injured during the operation.

In order to create a more permanent security presence in the volatile area, the Army has also set up 91 check posts in Rajgal valley.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi has expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Lieutenant Arsalan Alam.

In a statement, he said that war against terrorism is a war of our existence as a sovereign nation. He said our valiant forces have inflicted huge damage upon terrorist elements but at the same time have rendered huge sacrifices in doing so.

The Prime Minister said the cowardly terrorist attacks on our law enforcing agencies can never shake our resolve to back off or slowdown in our resolve to continue with anti-terror operations.
