Govt to improve lifestyle of women: Nazari

KABUL: Minister for Women Affairs Dilbar Nazari said the National Unity Government was determined for the political participation of women.

Addressing the conclusion ceremony of a 16-day campaign to stop violence against women in Kabul, Nazari said the government has formed numerous committees to improve the lifestyle of women. The formation of the committees was aimed at gender expansion on the central and provincial levels.

She expressed happiness over the participation of women and girls in various political and social sectors.

“Currently 11 women are performing their duties as deputies in 11 ministries. Twelve percent women are leading various agencies. Women form about 26 percent out of the total administrative employees. Thirty nine percent women are students in schools and 23 percent are university students. Thirty four percent of teachers are women,” she observed.

She lauded the participation of women in justice, health, security and development sectors.

She said the participation of women was noticeable in the empowerment and implementation of national programmes, expansion of national reconciliation economic framework and international lasting development purposes.

On the occasion, commissioner of human rights commission, Suraya Subahrang said Afghanistan had entered the new phase of change in the past one and half decades. Women have showed bright participation in all sectors, she added.

Ninety percent domestic could still be seen in families, she said. More efforts would be utilized to create favorable environment in houses. All the marriages in center and provinces would be registered.
