‘Govt paying proper attention to mines’

KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has said the government was paying proper attention to the administration of mines and natural resources in the country.

This he said in a meeting with the representatives of Badakhshan provincial assembly at the Presidential Palace here on Monday.

Chairman of Independent Directorate of Local Governance, Abdul Matin Baig was also present in the meeting.

After hearing the demands of Badakhshan provincial assembly members, the president directed the concerned agencies to take prompt steps to address the issues of people in Badakhshan, particularly the displaced persons.

The government would ensure access to all issues in Badakhshan, particularly to the bordering districts, he said. The government has made organized programmes in this regard, he added.

Military operations have been conducted to improve security in the northeast of the country, especially in Badakhshan, he said. The offensives would continue till the enemy is eliminated, he added. The government was paying proper attention to the administration of natural resources and mines in the country, he said, adding that they needed the support of nation in this regard.

“Mines are the property of the people of Afghanistan. The people should support the government for the protection of mines,” he said.

On the occasion, chairman of Badakhshan provincial assembly, Dr Bashir Samim and member of the house Saira Saba Alamyar briefed the president about various issues of the province, including security, health, displaced people and highways.

They demanded of the government to free the natural resources and mines of the control of influential figures and terrorists in Badakhshan.
