IJT announces kicking off campaign to sensitize students of varsities

PESHAWAR: In order to create awareness among students of various colleges and varsities across the country, the Islami Jamiat-e-Talba, announced to kick off a campaign “Aao Badli Pakistan” (lets change Pakistan) aimed at mobilizing and sensitizing youth.

The announcement was made by Islami Jamiat-e-Talba Central Nazim Sohaibuddin Kakakhel in a news conference held on Monday at Peshawar Press Club. Expressing his viewpoints over various issues, IJT Nazim, said the country is facing corruption, terrorism, extremism, nepotism, favoritism and other serious matters which is because of lack of education.

Sharing his future action of plan, he informed that the campaign will kick off from major cities including Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore and district level and it will also be initiated universities and colleges to create importance of education among the students. He claimed the awareness drive will bring about change among students.

He stated the federal government has allocated only 2.2 per cent budget of the total GDP for education sector while UNESCO has already set the parameter to spend 4 per cent of GDP on education. While referring the allocation of budget of other countries for education sector, he added India is currently spending 3.6 per cent GDP on education, Iran 3.8 per cent while Afghanistan was spending 4.1 per cent on education department.

Regarding the federal and provincial governments, he explained that in the light of article 25-A, it is the constitutional and legal responsibility of governments to provide free and compulsory education to their citizens aging one to sixteen years. Neither federal government nor provincial governments were committed to implement the law in its letter and spirit and provide free education to people, he alleged.

Mr Kakakhel asked relevant authorities to allow holding union elections in colleges and varsities and that the process will create democratic environment among students and will provide an opportunity to become future leaders. However, the senate of Pakistan earlier decided to hold polls for students unions and all political parties expressed satisfaction but to no nail, he argued.

Endorsing the Fata’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, IJT Nazim, said the students of colleges and varsities have agreed over brining tribesmen to the mainstream and this is the time, the people should be bestowed their legal, constitutional, political and economical rights enshrined in constitution of Pakistan. The tribesmen have been deprived of their basic rights since the establishment of Pakistan, he informed.

After the worsening law and order condition improved in tribal areas, he urged central government to announce construction of medical colleges, engineering and university for students of tribal belt and the work on these projects should be completed on emergency basis.

He announced to hold a convention on 2nd November, 2017 in which students from across the country will participate. On the occasion Zakir Ahmad Secretary Information Islami Jamiat-e-Talba and other members were also in attendance.
