PESHAWAR: Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) has arranged the screening of film ‘Project Peshawar’, despite the fact it was based on a baseless theme that depicted the Pakhtuns as valueless people who can stoop very low for money.
Senior artists and cultural critics demanded the KP government to explain, how the film will promote tourism and culture and why such huge amount was spent on the screening of an anti- Pakhtun movie?
A project of jeans film, the film was screened on Sunday night at Nishtar hall by TCKP on the pretext that “the film is promoting Pakhtuns’ culture and historical sites of the province.”
However, the 45 minutes long film has no link with Tourism or Culture of the province but its story revolves around the misuse of social media by a girl in Peshawar to entice a foreigner and was brought to Peshawar, where goons were waiting for him. Immediately after arriving Peshawar, he was kidnapped for ransom and was subjected to sever torture.
Although the officials of Tourism Corporation knew that the film has nothing to do with the promotion of Pakhtun culture and that it will deter foreign tourists to come to the city but it was propagated through press releases that the film is promoting the tourist sites of the province.
After the screening of film, the TCKP however, changed it stance saying that the purpose of screening of film is just to promote new talent and that the TCKP has nothing to do with the film.
“TCKP has nothing to do with the film Project Peshawar, it was the production of Jeans films,” said the official of TCKP “We have just provided opportunity to the new talent to show their talent.”
Waqas Khan an official of Tourism Corporation when contact said “the film has shown the real image of Pakhtuns; therefore, the TCKP has arranged its screening in Peshawar.”
On the stage senior film artists, Including Asif Khan was also insulted, who was invited and was present in the hall when the makers of the new short film maligned and accused the Pashto film makers for producing ‘dirty’ movies.
“It is not good omen to declare others work terrible,” said Asif Khan, senior Pashto film artist. “They should not boast about their in advance, until they face the market.” He added the senior artists of the industry support the new talent and appreciate them in producing quality films.
He added the Pashto film makers have produced such quality movies in the past, said Asif Khan. Despite the fact that in those we have no such high technology as it is available in present time.
Senior actors also demanded the KP government to explain why the money is being spending on such activities why the actual artists, who have worked for decades, are in financial constraints due to non-availability of work.
“We demand the TCKP and Chief minister KP to explain why an anti Pakhtun culture film was screened at Nishtar hall under the banner of TCKP,” said Javed Babar, senior drama artists “we should be told how this film will promote our tourism and culture?.”
