Morgan defends Bayliss ahead of ODI series

MELBOURNE: England’s limited over captain, Eoin Morgan has defended the England head-coach Trevor Bayliss and appreciates his efforts for lifting the pressure off the squad.

Earlier, Bayliss had given signals of his intention to step down after the 2019 Ashes, England having surrendered the urn to Australia in a 4-0 series defeat.

Bayliss has been criticized for overseeing just 15 victories in 38 Tests but has proved far more successful in the shorter formats by guiding the team to the final of the World Twenty20 in 2016 and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy semifinals.

Morgan praised Bayliss’ impact as England looks to restore pride in a five-match one-day international series and adding Bayliss has been brilliant for us as a coach.

Morgan is not expected to make a decision on a potential return for Alex Hales until the day of the first ODI in Melbourne on Sunday.
