NAB boss orders 3 inquiries, seeks report in two months

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal Monday ordered the NAB Lahore director general to investigate a complaint against Special Assistant Higher Education Punjab Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri and others, who allegedly got undue benefits from the Punjab Small Industrial Cooperative Employees Housing Society and illegally occupied the land in connivance with the Society management.

He directed the NAB DG to submit a report accordingly within two months, a press release said.

In another case, the chairman ordered the NAB Multan DG to interrogate a complaint against former member of the Punjab Assembly Ahmed Hussain Dahar and others for constructing a road and housing colony on private land with official funds by misusing his authority, and making assets beyond known income, and submit a report within two months.

Javed Iqbal also ordered the NAB Lahore DG to hold an inquiry against former chairman of Pakistan Railways Arif Azeem over alleged corruption in purchase of 58 locomotives amounting to Rs 15.3 million and 40 power vans worth Rs 4,600 million from a Chinese firm in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules, which are not in use due to their poor quality. The report will be submitted within two months.

Meanwhile, Chairman NAB Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal has said that NAB will work only follow the law of the country.

He said this while chairing a meeting at NAB Headquarters to review all regional and bureaus of the authority. Prosecution, Operation, Awareness and Anti-Corruption Divisions briefed the meeting about their performances.

Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal has said that Supreme Court of Pakistan has 173 verdicts about NAB, adding that no inquiry or investigation should be beyond the limitations of law as per the NAB rules and procedures. He stated that the country has debt over 84 billion dollars while on the other side cellular companies don’t pay 400 billion rupees to Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR).

He expressed satisfaction over the report of last three months. He said that the bureau will have to root out the corruption from the country with public support.
