People have not accepted injustice done to Nawaz: Maryam

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said the people have not accepted the injustice meted out to her father.

Addressing a workers convention in the provincial capital on Monday, she said, “When I stepped out to campaign for the NA-120 by-elections I wanted to present Nawaz Sharif’s case before the public’s court,” Maryam said.

“But with the passage of time, I have realised that the people have not accepted the injustice meted out to Nawaz Sharif.”

While addressing the convention, Maryam said her mother Begum Kulsoom Nawaz is not contesting the NA-120 by-election as the wife of the former prime minister. But, Maryam added, Kulsoom Nawaz stood up for the party at a time when the party’s leader, Nawaz, was sent into exile.

Maryam also appreciated the party workers for their discipline, saying it is often difficult to conduct a political party’s event in an organised manner. “But today I can see discipline.” The workers’ convention was held to campaign for the upcoming NA-120 by-election on September 17.

Earlier, Maryam had slammed political opponents for hatching conspiracies. “You are not capable of removing Nawaz Sharif,” she told her political opponents while addressing a rally in Lahore’s NA-120 constituency. “You are nothing but a defeated pawn.”

She also reiterated that Nawaz Sharif is the leader who worked towards ending power and gas load shedding, building motorways, improving infrastructure and implementing projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

“Everyone will hear the lion roar on September 17,” she had said.

The NA-120 seat fell vacant following the disqualification of Nawaz as the prime minister by the Supreme Court on July 28. In the 2013 General Elections, Nawaz had won the seat by a substantial margin, defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Yasmin Rashid, who will be contesting for the seat this time around too.
