PHC CJ stops govt from releasing ex-TTP spokesman

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) headed by PHC Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprised Justice Sajjad Anwar Wednesday barred the government from releasing former TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan.

The two-member ruled during hearing of a writ petition filed by Fazal Khan Advocate, father of a student Shahibzada Omar Khan martyred in the December 16, 2014 Army Public School attack.

The petitioner had prayed that the government was planning to give clemency to the former militant, who was reportedly in the custody of security agencies.

In its second report submitted in the court, the government had stated that it was still investigating the former TTP spokesman.

The court directed the government to continue investigation against Ehsanullah Enshan but barred the government from releasing him on any ground and keep the court updated about the investigation proceedings.

The TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan had been associated with TTP and later its splinter group Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA), voluntarily surrendered to the security forces.
