PHC judge frees 16 prisoners from Timergara jail

TIMERGARA: The Peshawar High Court Mingora circuit bench Justice Mr. Qalandar Ali Khan on Saturday released 16 prisoners belonging to Lower Dir and Swat involved in pity nature cases.

The justice issued the orders during his visit to District Jail Timergara. Mr. Gohar Rehman District & Sessions Judge Dir Lower along with Mr. Liaqat Ali Additional District & Sessions Judge Timergara, Mr. Syed Obaidullah Shah, Additional District & Sessions Judge Swat, Mr. Shahidullah Khan, IG Prisons KP, Mr. Khalid Abbas, AIG Prisons KP, Mr. Abdul Haleem Khan Civil Judge-I Timergara  and Mr. Imran Khan, Additional Assistant Commissioner Timergara Dir Lower received and welcomed him.

He inspected and checked the barracks, hygienic condition of Kitchen, availability of medical staff, women barracks, Juvenile barracks and availability of drinking water and mingled with prisoners including female and juvenile for some time.

He inquired about the situation of District Jail Timergara. The justice listened to the complaints of female and juvenile inmates of the jail and directed the concerned officials to resolve them.

The Justice appreciated the services of doctors and medical staff of the jail hospital. Speaking on the occasion he said the government should construct separate jails in Swat and Dir Upper in order to decrease burden on Timergara jail.

He also demanded of the government to fill all the vacant posts in jail without further delay. The justice also issued directives to district and session judges to arrange legal assistance for poor and helpless prisoners in the jail.

Barren land: A social worker Buzarg Syed on Saturday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to construct small dams for irrigating barren lands in Lower Dir for its better utilization.

Talking to local journalists at the Timergara press club he said that most of the lands in the district were depending only on rainfall. He said there had been no means of irrigation though the district had great water potential.

He said that several streams like Toormang Khwar, Kannai, Rabat Khwar, Amlook Dara Talash, Jandol Rod and Paito Dara had suitable sites for construction of small dams. The social activist said that due to financial crises in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States people of Dir working there were returning homes.

He said if the government built small dams on these streams the people would get job opportunity. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should fulfill its pledges of small dams.
