PM meets UN secretary general, hands dossier on human rights violations in IoK

NEW YORK (APP): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday called on United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The two figures discussed situation in Afghanistan and ceasefire violations by India. The prime minister also handed a dossier on human rights violation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) to the UN secretary general.

He also demanded appointment of a special UN envoy for occupied Kashmir.

On the occasion, Guterres said that he holds Pakistan very close to his heart and acknowledges its efforts against terrorism.

Abbasi will be addressing the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York tonight, in what will be his debut into the highest international diplomacy after having taken over the office last month.

He has so far held key meetings with a number of world leaders during his stay in New York.

These included calls on United States Vice President Mike Pence, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan among others.
