Protest against delay in producing detainees in courts held

PESHAWAR: After delay in producing detainees arrested in cases relating to drugs, the family members of detained persons on Saturday protested against anti-narcotics department for its failure to produce inmates in courts despite clear direction of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Holding a demonstration in front of Peshawar press club, the protestors lashed out at officials of anti-narcotics department for using delaying tactics to produce detainees in superior courts in the light of clear directions of Supreme Court. While holding banners and placards in favor of their demands, they said it was injustice that the department was lingering cases of their family members.

“If their family members involved in crimes should be presented in courts so that either they should be punished or set free” they asked.  Because of their family members, the children, parents and other persons are suffering and worrying regarding them as why not they are produced before the courts, they regretted.

The department, they alleged has detained innocent persons in drug cases and raids on their homes are being conducted unlawfully. Referring the directions of Supreme Court, aggrieved protestors, stated it has clearly been mentioned that these inmates should be produced before the courts within three months of duration but to no nail.

They asked Supreme and High Courts to take notice of the injustices and take action against department for its delaying tactics otherwise a protest sit-in would be held in front of anti-narcotics department.
