SC starts hearing Tareen disqualification case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court continues hearing the petition filed against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Jehangir Tareen on Thursday which was filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi and seeking disqualification of Jehangir Tareen for having illegal assets.

Jehangir Tareen’s advocate is presenting his arguments before the three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday. Justice Saqib Nisar observed that the land was on lease and the earning from the land is Tareen assets and it need to be shown in the documents and adding that still Jahangir Tareen did not mention his complete assets in the election form.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that before giving the final opinion in the matter, they (court) are trying to understand the law in this regard.

On October 11, the bench observed that there is a clear difference in the assets details submitted by the PTI lawmaker in the election nomination papers and the details submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue.
