LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq’s nephew Imam-ul-Haq was selected in Lahore Blue’s squad following brief scuffle.
The incident occurred during drafting process for National T20 tournament. As per details garnered, Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed exasperation as selectors preferred Ahmad Shehzad over Imam but the matter was later sorted out with mutual consent.
The new drafting rules compel teams to select only four players from their respective region. Lahore Blues elected Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Hussain and Ahmad Shehzad. Chief selector, who was present on occasion of drafting, raised objection over Ahmad Shehzad’s selection upon which committee members informed him that Shehzad was selected on recommendations of skipper Hafeez.
Later, Lahore Cricket City Association President Khawaja Mohammad Nadeem and former test player Mushtaq Ahmad cooled down Inzamam by informing him that Imam had been picked up in Lahore Blues’ squad.
While talking to media, Inzamam stated that preference should be given to youngsters over seniors in shorter format of the game.
“We will closely monitor performance of junior players while top performers will be elected in the national squad,” uttered chief selector.
