Sports gala arranged by Timergara TMA concludes

TIMERGARA: The sports Gala organized by the Timergara tehsil municipal administration concluded here on Tuesday. The sports Gala lasted for 14 days during which sports’ competitions of cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, tug of war and ‘kabuddi’ were held at Talash and Timergara grounds.

A prize distribution function was held at the Timergara rest house ground. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for finance Muzafar Syed was chief guest of the event while the Lower Dir nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan, MNA Sahibzada Yaqub Khan, Timergara tehsil nazim Riaz Muhammad, district sports’ officer Haji Bahadar Syed, in-charge of the gala Arshad Iqbal, players and area elders also attended the function. Different sports’ clubs from all parts of the Timergara tehsil participated in the event that had started on Oct, 21.

Hundreds of youth and local residents enjoyed matches played during the event. Speaking on the occasion the minister said the nation was proud of its youth. He said youth were the real asset of the nation. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had introduced reforms in each sector and the arrangement of sports’ festivals in parts of the province was part of this reform agenda. He said the government wished to engage youth and students in healthy and positive competitions. The minister announced Rs 200,000 for the event organizing committee. The winner and runner up teams and best players of all games were awarded trophies, shields and certificates.

Also in the day, another prize distribution function was held at government primary school Munjai on conclusion of sports’ tournament among primary schools in Lower Dir. The KP finance minister Muzafar Syed was chief guest of the function which was also addressed by district nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan, Balambat tehsil nazim Imran ud Din and others.

The speakers termed sports vital for overall development of children. The minister announced construction of additional rooms in GPS Munjai and Rs 100,000 for the school management. He said that according to the KP government educational policy each primary school would consist of six rooms instead of two. The minister also distributed medals and trophies among the players of primary schools.
