Woman gives birth outside MS office in Ganga Ram Hospital

LAHORE (NNI): A woman gave birth in front of Medical Superintendent’s office in Ganga Ram hospital on Friday after she was refused entry by the staff.

Despite of Punjab government’s claims of improving medical facilities in hospital, women are forced to give birth outside the hospital as this is the second such incident this week.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif while taking notice of the incident suspended the hospital’s Director Emergency. He has also summoned report from Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Secretary Health. The chief minister has emphasized to take legal action against those responsible.

Health Minister arrived at Ganga Ram over the directions of Punjab CM. “The woman came to the hospital in the morning and was checked by the doctor. However; she was going to the canteen when the labour pain started and she gave birth to the child who is in stable condition,” he claimed while talking to media.

“The Director Emergency has been suspended initially and a committee has been made to investigate the incident which will bring forward the real facts,” the minister added. Three days back, a woman in Raiwind gave birth outside the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) after the staff refused to treat her.

Sameera Bibi was experiencing labour pains at the time of entry and no doctors were available in the hospital on duty, following which she eventually had to give birth in front of the hospital gate during morning hours.

A committee was formed to probe the matter and a report was presented to Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif. In a series of tweets, he pointed out the negligence of Raiwind hospital staff, doctors and paramedical members and said that strict action has been taken against all those responsible.
