Work on teachers’ township in Kama district launched

JALALABAD: Construction work on a township for teachers has been launched in the Kama district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.

The township construction and distribution of land plots to teachers started after frequent requests and protests, the governor’s media office said. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of the Kama district chief and some other officials on Saturday afternoon.

Kama district chief, Attaullah Hadawal, said they had identified 150 acres of land for the township in Mamakhel area based on suggestions from Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal, influential figures and teacher representatives.

Akbar Sher, a provincial council member, said the township had 961 plots to be distributed to eligible teachers of the district. He called upon teachers to focus on their job and avoid protests.

Acting Education Director Syed Essa Sadat, meanwhile, welcomed the launch of work on the project and said the governor’s house head been able to identify land for the teachers’ township.

He asked the Ministry of Urban Development and Independent Land Authority to process all technical affairs of the township and start distributing land plots to teachers as soon as possible.

Urban Development Director Eng. Abdul Qahar Haidari promised that land plots would be distributed three months ahead of the township’s construction. However, no teacher could sell their plots.

If a teacher did not construct a house within three months of the allotment or tried to sell the plot, then department reserved the right to take back the land, he warned. Mohammad Sadiq Dawlatzai, head of Nangarhar’s Independent Land Authority, promised the plot distribution process would get under way in the near future.

Israrullah Murad, a provincial council member, commended efforts of the Nangarhar governor. He vowed to monitor the township’s construction.

He also voiced on people and teachers to cooperate with the technical team appointed for the township affairs.
