NEILI: Police detained four persons and foiled an attempt to sell off a 10 year-old girl for marriage in Miramor district of central Daikundi province, local officials said on Sunday.

Abdul Qadir, chief of Miramor district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a family in Ashto village wanted to sell their minor daughter to another family, but local officials and police frustrated the deal.

He said the girl was sent to a shelter house in Neili city, the capital of Daikundi, for her protection.

The detainees included father of the girl, father of the boy, the boy himself and a neighbor, he said.

But a security official, who wished to go unnamed, said the family of the girl had sold their daughter for marriage to the detained boy against 240,000 afghanis.

Meanwhile, Zakia Rezayee, Daikundi women’s affairs director, confirmed four people had been detained in connection with the case and the girl was in shelter house for her protection. (Pajhwok)
