1041 women complete literacy course in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF: Above 1,000 women have completed a nine-month literacy course organized by the Islamic Relief NGO in northern Balkh province, an official said.

Islamic Relief country director in Aghanistan, Mirwais Fazel, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the course participants learned reading and writing.

He added most of the participating women belonged to war-affected areas and they were trained in reading and writing skills. He said the women numbering 1041 were now able to read signboards and invitation letters.

Education Director Naseer Ahmad said that currently more than 700 literacy courses involving almost 21,000 people were underway and would complete till the end of the outgoing solar year.

Ahmad said people’s interest in far-flung areas had increased in literacy and promised to provide literacy courses to another 25,000 people.
