JALALABAD: At last 11 civilians were reported killed and three others wounded during military operation in eastern Laghman province, residents said Thursday.
Security forces conducted ground and aerial operation in the Garach village of Badpakh district, killing 11 civilians and wounding three others, local residents told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
Those killed in the operation including two brothers, their nephew, a father and his son and their cousins, they said, adding three elderly men were also among the dead.
Sarhadi Zwak, spokesman of Laghman governor, confirmed civilian casualties in the overnight raid, saying the operation was conducted without any coordination with provincial administrator.
He said the provincial administration is conducting investigations to ascertain that who conducted the operation. There was no word by interior and defense ministry in this regard.
