117 Taliban insurgents killed in fresh operations: Security officials

KABUL (Agencies): At least 117 Taliban militants have been killed and 17 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Tuesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army in collaboration with Afghan National Police and National Directorate of Security personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Herat, Baghlan, Kunduz, Zabul, Ghor, Balkh, Jawzjan and Kunar province, in which 117 militants were killed and 17 others wounded.

Afghan security forces also arrested 20 militants, including seven suspects and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry. Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 13 Taliban insurgents were killed, one vehicle and one depot of explosive destroyed in Sangin and Garmsir districts of Helmand, 12 militants were killed in Shorabak and Shah Walikut districts of Kandahar, 10 rebels were killed in Pashtun Zarghoun and Oba districts of Herat, 10 insurgents were killed and another wounded in Dahana Ghori district of Baghlan, nine rebels were killed, five wounded and seven suspects were arrested in Char Dara district and province capital of Kunduz, nine insurgents were killed, and six others detained Shinkay districts of Zabul, nine Taliban fighters were killed and four fighting positions destroyed in Sharak district of Ghor province.

Similarly, three insurgents were killed and five others wounded in Bangala area of the Balkh district of Balkh, two militants were killed and three others wounded in Mangajak district of Jawzjan, one rebel was killed in Murcha Khel area, Sokay district of Kunar province.

In past 24 hours, 22 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting ANA including 32 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
