17 killed, five injured in truck-van collision in Khairpur

KHAIRPUR: At least 17 people were killed and five others were injured when a coal-laden truck rammed into a passenger van near Shah Hussain village in Khairpur District on Monday morning.

The passenger van was travelling to Sukkur from Khairpur when it faced the accident near Shah Hussain village of Khairpur in which 17 people lost their lives and five others were seriously injured.

The rescue teams reached the site and started rescue operations. The bodies of deceased and injured were shifted to hospitals. Rescue officials told that some of the injured were serious condition.

Road mishaps are common in Pakistan and according to the statistics revealed by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, around 4500 people die every year due to poor enforcement of safety laws by traffic police.
