174,358 illegal foreigners repatriated

PESHAWAR: As many as 174,358 illegal foreigners were repatriated through different borders mostly from Torkham to their home countries between September 17 to November 5, 2023. According to Home Department spokesman, it includes 11,481 families including 48,814 male, 37,131 female and 88,413 children.
He said that holding camps were established at Landi Kotal Khyber, Peshawar and Haripur districts. The spokesman said Torkham border that connect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Afghanistan was the main route through which these illegal foreigners mostly Afghans returned to their home countries.
He said free transport and food services was provided to illegal immigrants from Landi Kotal holding camp. Illegal foreigners coming from Islamabad and Punjab province used Torkham border. Keeping in view of illegal immigrants’ rush, emergency were declared in Nowshera, Peshawar and Khyber district. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has estimated Rs1 billion expenditures for smoth process of repatriation of illegal foreigners.
Our correspondent adds from Landi Kotal: In the ongoing crackdown against illegal immigrants, 110 Afghans resided unlawfully in different parts of the country were departed to their homeland, Afghanistan via Torkham border after their clearance in Holding Center.
It is worth mentioning here that subsequent to expiry of the deadline on 01 November, 2023, the government has kicked off a crackdown against illegal immigrants across the country.
The police official said that the Afghan national had been detained in various parts of the country and following their verification and data collection process had been done at Holding Center, Nowshera, they were handed over to Khyber police. The local police and security deported them after necessary procedures were carried out at the border, the official said. As per the report last night 6584 illegitimate Afghan citizens crossed the Torkham border to Afghanistan.
