KABUL: The Afghan Military in the North has announced that 179 Taliban militants including 15 commanders of the group hailing from Afghanistan as well as abroad have been killed in Northern and Northeastern provinces of the country since the group announced the launch of its spring offensive “Al-Fath”.
The 209th Shaheen Corps in a statement said the militants were killed during the clashes in Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan, Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, and Faryab provinces.
The statement further added that 77 militants including their 6 commanders were also wounded during the same clashes. According to 209th Shaheen Corps, Taliban militants intensified their attacks in northern parts of the country after announcing their spring offensive but the Afghan armed forces effective responded and repulsed the attacks with the resistance of the ground forces and airstrikes carried out by the Air Forces.
The 209th Shaheen Corps also confirmed that 7 security personnel also lost their lives during the clashes and 11 others sustained injuries but the civilians have not suffered casualties so far.
The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the report so far.
