18 power thieves with tampered meters found, fined in Dir

TIMERGARA: A total of eighteen power consumers were fined Rs 5, 85, 184 for stealing electricity and tempering their power meters while cases against them were sent to police department.

An official of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) told local journalists here on Saturday that Pesco anti-theft task has tightened its noose around power thieves in Timergara sub-division and caught 18 consumers who tampered their electricity meters and charged them for a total of Rs 585184 as fine.

The Pesco Timergara sub divisional officer Tanvir ul Haq said that a total of 18 consumers two of them commercial were caught with tampered electricity meters.

The official said that cases had been sent to the concerned station house officers (SHOs) for registration of first information reports (FIRs) against the accused under relevant laws.

“A crackdown against power theft was launched three weeks ago which will continue till complete elimination of power stealing in the area,” the SDO said adding it was intolerable to force consumers to pay bills for others’ wrong doings.
