KABUL: Moldovan President Igor Dodon has announced the release of two pilots from 42 months of Taliban’s captivity

Dodon told journalists in Chisinau on Monday: “At the end of the week or the beginning of next week, I’ll fly to Moscow to return with the aviators..,”

Taliban militants had swized the two pilots in November 2015 when their helicopter crash-landed in northern Faryab province. A third Moldovan crew member was killed.

Currently admitted to a Moscow hospital, the pilots are said to be in satisfactory condition. They were freed on February 9 after months of negotiations.

DPA quoted the Moldovan president as saying that their release was achieved because of the help provided by Russian leaders in response to his request. (Pajhwok)
