ISLAMABAD: There were 20 Pakistan onboard the vessel that met a fateful crash yesterday while trying to offload illegal immigrants on Italy’s shores on Sunday.
Pakistani authorities have confirmed that Pakistan Embassy in Barcelona has reached out to 16 Pakistani survivors so far, while other four Pak nationals are still missing whose whereabouts could not be confirmed yet.
In a tweet, Pakistan Foreign Office shared the details and said that Pakistani authorities are continuously in contact with the government of Italy to get the latest updates on Pakistani citizens to subsequently provide them with all possible medical and legal help at the earliest.
Earlier, a migrant vessel broke apart while trying to land with about 150 people aboard near the coastal town of Crotone in Sputhwest Italy on Sunday.
The media reported that 58 migrants including a baby have died and over 80 people recovered including those who got managed to reach the shore after sinking in rough sea waters. According to Italian authorities, those onboard were mainly from Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Pakistan, and a few other nations in Africa.
Recently, Pakistani authorities confirmed the presence of 20 Pakistani citizens on the ship that faced a dreadful fortune last night.
