2019 Sail Nias launched in Jakarta to boost marine tourism

Monitoring Desk

JAKARTA: The 2019 Sail Nias event was officially launched in Jakarta on Thursday, with “Nias as the gate to world’s marine tourist destination” as its theme.

Slated to run between July and September, the event will take place across five regencies and cities in Nias and is set to offer 17 activities, including World Surf League Nias, Wonderful Expo, Traditional Fishermen’s Boat Parade, Nias Cultural Heritage Seminar, Culinary Exhibition, Fahombo Batu stone-jumping festival, Archipelago Festival and Skydiving Attraction.

Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said the event would culminate in Dalam Bay, South Nias, in September.

North Sumatra Deputy Governor Musa Rajekshah said in a statement that he was hopeful Nias tourism would be boosted following this event.

“The 2019 Sail Nias is a good strategy to lure more domestic and foreign tourists to this destination,” he said. (kes)
