2nd RMI Media Cricket League: Sultans and Jaguars register victories

PESHAWAR: Two more matches were decided in the ongoing second RMI Media Cricket League being played here at Government Shaheed Hasnain Sharif Higher Secondary School No. 1.

On Thursday, PPC Sultans and PPC Jaguars register victories over PPC Kings and PPC Azmari. In the first match of the day Sultans beat Kings in a nail biting finish when they scored 18 runs in the last over.

Batting first Kings made 105 in allotted 10 overs. Opener Abdul Razzaq was the top scorer with 46 runs. He hit six four and two sixes. Waqar Ahmed (19) and Waqar (17) were the only other two batsmen to enter double figures. Haq Nawaz took two wickets while Qadir and Ahsan shared one wicket each. In reply, Sultans reached the target in the last over with six wickets in hand. Ahsan hit two fours and a six in the last over to leave Kings bamboozled who were eyeing victory with 18 runs needed in the last over. Meanwhile, Haq Nawaz was adjudged man of the match for his two wickets and 17 valuable runs.

In the second match PPC Jaguars outclass PPC Azmari by 45 runs. Batting first after winning the toss Jaguars made 141 runs in 10 overs thanks to brilliant batting display. He remained unbeaten on 96 just four runs short of which would have been a wonderful hundred. It was also the first fifty of the tournament. Ijaz hit 11 huge sixes and two fours in his 40 ball innings. Interestingly Zakir was the only other batsmen besides Ijaz to enter double figures. It was a lone effort from Ijaz that propelled Jaguars to victory. Ijaz also hit five consecutive sixes in one over of Hashim. For Azmari, Tariq took two wickets and Abbas took one wicket.

In reply Azmari team could only made 103 runs in ten over. Ashfaq Hussain was the top scorer with 46 runs. Ashfaq also hit five consecutive sixes but this time the bowler was Fida. Ashfaq was finally bowled by Sajjad as he tried to accelerate the score with the required run rate climbing higher. Arif (10) and Asad (14) remained not out. Sajjad took three wickets while Abbas grab two wickets. Ijaz was named Man of the Match for his brilliant batting. Usman and Sana Ullah acted as Umpires while Imran Yousafzai acted as scorer.

On the occasion chief guest SSP traffic Yasir Afridi appreciated Peshawar Press Club Sports Committee for arranging the event.
