3 civilians, 10 IS fighters dead

HERAT/JALALABAD: Three civilians and 10 Islamic State (IS) gunmen were killed and wounded during separate incidents of violence in Farah and Nangarhar provinces, officials said Thursday.

Anti-government gunmen conducted a roadside bomb attack on the police chief of Pusht-e-Rod district, Farah province, and then opened fire on him the Gajgeen area of the same district Thursday morning, said Muhammad Naser Mehri, spokesman of Farah governor.

He told that the police chief and other cops escape unhurt but a passer-by was killed and two others wounded by the anti-government gunmen’s fire.

Spokesman of Farah police Iqbal Baher, however, said three Taliban were killed and four more wounded when police returned fire.

He said the attackers affiliated to the groups of Taliban commanders Mulla Niamat Gajgeni and Mullah Ibrahim. In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, security forces killed three Daesh members and wounded seven more over the past 24 hours, said Attaullah Khugyani, spokesman of Nangarhar governor.

He said the security forces discovered and defused six landmines.
