3 Pakistani boys reach finals at ITF Memorial Tennis Championship

ISLAMABAD (APP): The ITF Pakistan Zainab Ali Naqvi Memorial World Juniors Tennis Championship 2025 concluded successfully at the PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad, featuring participants from 14 countries.

According to a press release, the tournament saw 38 boys and 21 girls compete, showcasing young talent from nations including Kazakhstan, Japan and the United Kingdom.

In an exciting boys’ singles final, Abubakar Talha triumphed over Nadir Mirza with a score of 6-3, 7-5. The boys’ doubles final also featured Nadir Mirza, who partnered with Mikaeel Ali Baig to defeat Singapore’s Abubakar Talha and Luke Jie Xi Ho, winning 6-3, 6-4.

The girls’ doubles final saw Haniya Aman Minhas from Saudi Arabia and Zihan Feng from China beat Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Bayalina and Sofiya Malysheva, with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

This year’s championship was particularly memorable as three Pakistani boys—Nadir Mirza, Abubakar Talha, and Mikaeel Ali Baig—reached the finals on the same day, highlighting the country’s growing talent in junior tennis.

The event was dedicated to the memory of Zainab Ali Naqvi, a young tennis player who tragically passed away in February 2024 during an ITF tournament. The championship served as a heartfelt tribute to her dedication to the sport.

The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), along with Zainab’s parents as guests of honor. Mr. Qureshi expressed pride in the achievements of the young players, stating, “This reflects the promising direction our junior talent is heading toward.”

Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail, Secretary PTF, and other dignitaries also congratulated the winners and participants for their outstanding performances.

The ITF Pakistan Leg-2 commenced today (Saturday) with the main draw set to begin on Monday, April 14, 2025.
