3rd winter games festival begins in Bamyan province

KABUL (Agencies): The third winter games festival commenced in central Bamyan province of Afghanistan, an official said.

Asadullah Batour, head of Winter Games Union in Bamyan, said the games including skiing, mountain climbing and others would be played at the Band-i-Amir Park.

He said the games featuring around 300 players officially opened on Tuesday, with players of exhibiting their skiing, snowboard and climbing skills.

Azem Farid, the administrative Chief of Yakawalang district, said: ‘The opening of winter games festival would leave a positive impact on sports info-icon, economic and social sectors and would help empower unity among youth and people.’

Snowboard player Zahra Hakim said: ‘When I was preparing myself for Bamyan games, I was depressed, but now I am happy. Security has improved and there is no problem.’
