40 Taliban, 22 policemen killed in attack on security check-posts

KANDAHAR: As many as 40 Taliban fighters were killed and 35 others were injured when they attacked the security check-posts in Zhari and Maiwand district of Kandahar on Monday night.

The officials told to media persons on Tuesday that in the attack 22 policemen were also killed and 15 others were injured in the clashes.

Police said that Taliban attacked security forces check posts in Zhari and Maiwand districts on Monday night around 8:00 pm and the gunfight was lasted for one hour. It was one of the biggest Taliban attack in the last few years, police added.

Zia Durani, Spokesman of Kandahar police, confirmed the attack and adding that 22 policemen were killed and 15 others were wounded and he claimed that Taliban militants failed to gain control of the check posts and retreated.
