5 ANA soldiers killed, 6 injured

KANDAHAR CITY: At least five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and six others wounded as a result of a Taliban attack in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Wednesday. The overnight incident happened as the militants dug up a tunnel to an ANA base in the Mandozi area of the district, said KhwajaYahya Alvi, spokesman for the 205thAtal Military Corps. While confirming the attack, he said the Taliban stormed the military base after detonating explosives.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that a delegation had been dispatched to the area and further details would be shared with media later on.

The district police spokesman, Ashraf Watandost, also confirmed the loss of five ANA soldiers and injuries to six others in the Taliban attack.

However, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed inflicting causalities on about 30 soldiers in Maiwand district. (Pajhwok)
