5 teachers among 8 killed in Kurram firing incidents

PARACHINAR: As many as eight teachers were killed in different incidents while emergency has been imposed in hospitals across Kurram district. According to police sources, in the first incidents a man named Muhammad Sharif was shot killed by unknown persons while traveling on Shlozan Road in Upper Kurram, on Thursday.
The other incident took place within staffroom of Government High School Teri Mengal while deceased were identified as Jawad Hussain, Naveed Hussain, Jawad Ali, Muhammad Ali, and Ali Hussain, all of whom were teachers belonging to the Tori Bangash tribe who were performing examination duties at Teri Mangal High School.
The teachers, who were at the school to perform examination duties, were inside the staffroom when unknown assailants opened fire on them. The motive behind the killings remained unclear. The circumstances remained shadowy, as not many people were able to see what had transpired, how many attackers were involved, or what their motives were behind the killing.
District Police Officer Upper Kurram Muhammad Imran told media personnel that the first shooting incident took place on a road near the Shalozan area and the second at Teri Mengal School. He said one person died in the first incident and seven in the shooting at the school.
However, Kurram district headquarters hospital deputy medical superintendent Qaisar Abbas put the staff on emergency duty and take concrete steps to ensure quick aid to victims while death toll at eight, saying that only seven “teachers” were killed in the school shooting.
Local police said they were gathering more information and investigating the incident. Following the incidents, transportation routes across the district were closed due to security concerns, and the matric exams organized by the Kohat Education Board, which were scheduled to begin on April 28, have been postponed for an unknown period.
Inayat Hussain, the president of Tehreek Hussaini, Allama Syed Tajumal Hussain, has condemned the killing of innocent teachers, calling it a heinous act. He further stated that such incidents are aimed at destroying the peace of Kurram district, and strict action must be taken against those responsible.
Board examinations have been deferred for an indefinite period in Parachinar for now, announced the chairperson of Kohat’s education board, Samina Altaf. “The students inside the examination centre remained safe,” she said. The chairperson further informed that board examinations in the rest of Kurram district and areas will be held as per schedule.
Meanwhile, President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari has paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the security forces in North Waziristan.
President Zardari said that those who attacked the security forces should be pursued and brought to justice. The nation will never forgive the killers of its brave children, President Zardari said. Asif Ali Zardari expressed his sympathies and condolences to the families of the martyrs. Former President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed deep regrets and sorrow over the killing of seven teachers in Parachinar.
Killing of teachers who are fulfilling their duty is an unforgivable act. Criminals involved in the killing of teachers should be brought to justice. He prayed for the high ranks of the martyred teachers and strength and fortitude to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
