KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Monday said that 537 new cases of the novel coronavirus had emerged in Sindh over the past twenty-four hours, which was 14% of the testing capacity of the province.
CM Shah further said that out of the confirmed infections over the past day, 432 belonged to Karachi. 11 people were also confirmed to have passed away from the virus across the province over the past day.
The death toll from the virus in Sindh reached 200 a a result, CM Shah told the media. 22 new virus infections were confirmed in Sukkur, 19 in Shikarpur, 7 in Larkana and 4 Hyderabad, the chief minster said.
1,080 new infections reported on May 9
CM Shah had on May 9 reported 1,080 new infections in the province, the highest reported in a single day so far as the province eased a lockdown imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The chief minister, in a video statement on May 9, said that the situation was quite alarming and people needed to remain vigilant in this regard. He said of the 5,498 tests conducted, 20% came back positive.
CM Shah said that the province was entering the second phase of the lockdown now. He urged people to exercise caution and ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures were being followed.
