550 kgs of explosives discovered

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The police forces seized 550 kilograms of explosives from a vegetables truck in Nuristan province. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the police forces also arrested two people in connection to the smuggling of explosives.

According to a statement released by MoI, the militants had placed the explosives inside 55 sacks.

The statement further added that the militants were looking to smuggle the explosives to Paron city.

Nuristan is among the relatively volatile provinces in East of Afghanistan. Taliban militants are active in some districts of the province where they often conduct terrorist related activities.

Meanwhile, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against the anti-government armed groups in this province. Taliban and other militants often use Ammonium Nitrate in Improvised Explosive Devices.

The anti-government armed elements often use improvised explosive devices to target the security forces but in majority of such attacks ordinary civilians are targeted. The anti-government armed militants also suffer casualties in premature IED explosions. (Khaama Press)
