6 civilians killed in airstrike

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: At least six bird hunters have been killed and another one wounded in a US forces airstrike in Jalriz district of central Maidan Wardak province, a public representative said on Wednesday.

Sharifullah Hotak, a member of provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Kohna Khomar area on the hillside of Kanda Mountain at around 3:00pm on Tuesday.

Sharifullah added a 15 years old child was also among those who lost his life in the incident.

Hotak added that the hunters who all were civilians stayed on the hillside till late night as they feared they would get targeted by aircrafts circling on their heads.

The government should control the blind bombings in the province and should not take revenge from civilians, he said.

An eyewitness Mohammad Omar Amarkhel told Pajhwok victims of the incident were all civilians and needy people who went to the mountain for hunt.

However, Muhibullah Sharif, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok all the killed people were Taliban militants. He said that the individuals were under their chase since long ago.

Taliban have not yet commented in this regard. (Pajhwok)
