405 out of 900 schools in Nangarhar without buildings

JALALABAD: The new academic year in Nangarhar province was kicks off by the provincial official by ringing a school bell at Bibi Hawa High School.

Governor Gulab Mangal, Education officials and other provincial officers were present in the ceremony, they were informed that more than half of Nangarhar schools were running without buildings.

On the occasion the education authorities assured the participants that 50 schools in every province will get buildings during the academic year. There were a total of 900 schools in Nangarhar and 405 of them had no buildings, retaining walls, drinking water and other facilities and adding that 800,000 students, including 300,000 girls are getting education in these schools, Education Director Syed Esa Sadat.

Governor Mangal assured that efforts would be made for the reopening of closed schools.

He called on militants not to use schools as bastion and let the educational institutes function.
