6th Nazim Peshawar All-KP Badminton Championship begins

PESHAWAR: The 6th edition of the All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Men and Women Badminton Championship got under way here at Tariq Wadood Hall Qayyum Sports Complex on Saturday.

Chairman District Govt Sports and Culture Committee Mian Khan was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Championship. District Sports Officer Jamshed Baloch, Member Waseem Akram, President KP Badminton Association Zafar Ali Khan, Secretary and international qualified IBA referee Amjad Khan, Organizing Secretary Mian Sadaqat Shah, international qualified coaches who recently completed their coaching in Malaysia Nadeem Khan and Hayat Ullah, Technical Official Tehsin Ullah Khan, players and large number of spectators were also present.

Speaking on this occasion soon after inaugurating the Championship Mian Khan said that as desired by the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Islam Zeb and District Nazim Peshawar Arbab Muhammad Asim, a total of 150 players from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are taking part in Men singles, Women singles, Men doubles, Women Doubles, Mixed doubles and Veteran doubles.

He said the winners of the Men singles and women singles will be awarded Rs. 10,000 each while the runners-up would get Rs. 7000 each. The winners and runners-up other categories would be awarded Rs. 5000 and Rs. 4000 each.

He said Nazim Peshawar Arbab Muhammad Asim will grace the occasion at the final and prize distribution ceremony along with Deputy Commissioner Peshawar.  He said out of the 5% allocated grant meant for the sports by District Government they are going to purchased sports equipment worth Rs. 25 million would be distributed among all the Union council so that to provide due opportunities to the youth to come and play sports.

He said they have purchased sports equipment for PK-5 of worth Rs. 4.5 million. The District Government, he said has already chalked out a plan to hold three different sports festival that carry almost 20 different events at Chamkani, Matra and Hayatabad wherein all the union councils would be part of that festival in March next year. The Inter-Town Competitions will be organized in 20 different games for both male and female besides youth adventure, cultural trips. On December 20, the District Government would award all those who have their services in various fields under the banner of Fakr-e-Peshawar.

The final and prize distribution ceremony will be organized on December 20 at 3.00 p.m. He said a total of 150 players from 17 different districts are coming to Peshawar to take part in the Championship.

Earlier, before the start of the Championship Qari Fawad, recited few verses from the Holy Quran, followed by National Anthem. To pay tribute to the Shuhada of Army Public School (APS) a minute silence was also observed. President Peshawar District Badminton Association Mian Sadaqat Shah has been nominated as Organizing Secretary while Haji Amjad Khan will act as Chairman Organizing Committee.

In the matches Pesahwar’s Hamza, current national junior champion, defeated Usama of Mardan by 21-19, 21-11, Shehzad of Peshawar beat Usman of Peshawar by 21-17 and 21-18, Basit of Swat beat Kashif of Bannu by 21-19, 21-17.
