KANDAHAR: A traffic incident in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan has left at least 7 people dead and 22, the local officials said.

The incident took place on Wednesday in the vicinity of Maiwand district on the main highway connecting Kandahar and Herat provinces.

Provincial governor’s spoksman Qudrullah Khoshbakht confirmed that 7 people have died and 22 others have been wounded in the incident.

The local officials had earlier said, at least 17 people have been killed and 24 others have been wounded in the incident. The officials further add that the incident took place after a passenger bus collided with a small car on Kandahar-Kabul highway.

This comes as at least eight people were killed and thirteen others were wounded in a similar incident in western Herat province of Afghanistan in mid-February.

Earlier, at least one person was killed and nearly 43 others sustained injuries in a similar incident in Helmand province last month.

The incident took place between Washir district and Del Aram district of Nimroz after a passenger bus collided with tanker.
