Over 800,000 undocumented Afghan refugees registered so far

ISLAMABAD: Over Eight hundred thousand undocumented Afghan refugees have been registered across the country so far during the current drive which was launched in August 2017.

An official source of Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) told APP here on Monday , he said that said that three hundred and sixty-two thousand Afghan refugees have been registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only.

He said the registration of one million Afghan refugees would be completed by the end of this month.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has acknowledged Pakistan’s generosity in hosting one of the world’s largest protracted refugee populations for almost four decades.

The UNHCR also called for international support for the Pakistani government’s efforts to continue to host the almost 1.4 million Afghan refugees currently residing in Pakistan

The contribution of the government and people of Pakistan is Exemplary  because Pakistan is a developing country, but still Respecting  the international obligations and supporting a large refugee population for four decades.

He emphasized that media should play an effective role in highlighting the issues and challenges of the vulnerable refugee population to help harmonize the peaceful coexistence of both the communities so that the decade’s long sacrifices of people of Pakistan should not go waste. He said that more than 300,000 refugees repatriated to Afghanistan during 2016 and over 60,000 in 2017.
