9 Congo virus patients shifted to Karachi

QUETTA (PPI): One more person, a pharmacist at the local civil hospital, has been confirmed to have contracted Congo virus fever and has been subsequently transferred to Karachi for treatment, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) said on Monday.
Dr. Arif, the YDA spokesperson, revealed that the number of patients affected by Congo virus who have been moved to Karachi for medical care has now reached nine. He expressed concerns about what he perceives as a lack of serious attention from the government toward this matter.
A total of 16 confirmed cases of Congo virus have been reported, and Dr. Arif noted that two more patients are scheduled to be transferred to Karachi for treatment, raising significant concerns within the province. In response to the growing crisis, the Balochistan government issued a red alert due to the alarming spread of Congo virus fever, which has already claimed 16 lives. The Caretaker Chief Minister, Mir Ali Mardan Domki, has instructed the health and livestock departments to take immediate action to curb the disease’s progression.
The chief minister emphasized the importance of swiftly sharing information about the virus with the general public and called for immediate anti-viral spraying in livestock farms. He also underscored the potential severity of this new strain of Congo virus fever and urged prompt medical attention for patients displaying symptoms. Tragically, a doctor diagnosed with the Congo virus succumbed to the illness while being transported to Karachi for treatment. This year, the Fatima Jinnah Hospital in Quetta has received at least 41 patients with Congo virus, with 16 of them tragically losing their lives.
